Hi! I suppose it’s about time that I come out from behind the curtain of editor to introduce myself to the readers here at Party Foul. Well, I’m Josh, and I am probably the most fickle Warmachine/Hordes player around. I’ve played pretty much every faction under the sun, in one capacity or another, and never really found what I was looking for. To date the only faction I haven’t played is Legion, and the only reason is I’m not a huge fan of the ‘beasts.

So, what does that mean… In short it means that I tend to jump around a lot between factions, I believe the technical term for it is Faction ADD, and while I do enjoy dabbling in the Warmachine/Hordes pool it kind of prevents some satisfaction with the hobby. I’ve played the game for what must be close to five years, and in that time I’ve neither managed to paint a full army, nor have a win percentage anywhere close to .500.

That’s all well and good, admitting the problem, but that doesn’t really help me when it comes to solving it that’s where you lovely readers come in. You’re going to be the ones to hold me accountable. I am going to try, for the most part, to write one of these articles every week, and in the few words that the guys at Party Foul give me I am going to bring you a series on my attempt to stay loyal to a faction. What this means for you, reluctant readers, is a variety of painting, or playing reports on how I’m managing my resolution.

(Re)enter the Swans!

I muddled my way through playing Cygnar once before in my past play experience, and I’ll be honest, I sort of enjoyed it, sort of didn’t. But there are aspects about every faction that I enjoy, and aspects that I don’t, it’s just the way the game is for me. However, Cygnar was one of the ones that landed more on the enjoyed side of the line, but as per usual I ran off after the next new shiny and quickly traded away my Swans before I really got to know them. Well, I’m back on the bandwagon, and I have one lady, and her time-travelling counterparts to thank for that.

Behold Major Prime Victoria Haley!

All right, so here is where I start name dropping… Well, actually I won’t. I’ve spoken with a number of the “better” players in my meta, the one here in Southern Ontario, and I have heard a lot of good things about H3. Now, I have sort of been on a little hiatus from the hobby, since Templecon, and I wanted to come back fresh with something that’s familiar, but still a little bit different.

So, after some discussion with the meta I was presented a list, and it was a list I actually really liked, both in terms of what it did, and what models were in it.

Here is what I settled on, with a lot of help from the community, and some slight alteration from myself.

Major Prime Victoria Haley
Anastasia di Bray
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
Savio Montero Acosta
Journeyman Warcaster
Stormblade Captain
Storm Lances (Max)
+Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard
+Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (x3)

So, all in all it’s a pretty solid list, melee-centric with some real punch. Now, the question I hear some of you asking is how did it fair in its first outing… Well, aside from the clock/activation issues, and the considerable rust that I’ve accumulated… oh and Star Crossed better not forget that, it was a lot of fun.

I threw down against Party Foul’s own Scott Talarico playing EE, and while I’d like to say I put on a good show I really didn’t. I tried to operate outside the bounds of my ability and managed to get H3 shot to death by a Slag Troll, admittedly it was the turn after she took a max damage from CE Fire. However, I can see the potential in the list, especially against EE. Scott was running around with 4 Storm Trolls and was wailing at the audacity I had to bring such a list with so many troops who are immune to electricity. The list sort of did what I wanted it to, but my unfamiliarity with the ‘caster, and with game in general meant I was more or less just headbutting the wall while Scott did what he wanted and ground me down.

Not the best start to my return, but it happens.

Anyway, that’s enough out of me. Look back next week for another article. I am not sure if I am going to be able to get a game in between now and next Friday, but if I don’t I’ll put some effort into a painting article and speak about keeping myself motivated on that front. I am hoping to have a this list fully painted by the end of August and that’s looking like a tall order.

Until next time, reluctant readers.
